POP ROCK PHOTOS
Four Decades. One Archive. The Artists Who Defined Their Time.
For more than forty years, I have photographed musicians and artists at work, Album Covers, Single Covers on stage and away from the spotlight.
I began my career during the great era of the British music press, working for LFI and publications including, Sounds, Record Mirror, The Face, Select Magazine, Smash Hits to name but a few. Since then, my camera has taken me into studios, backstage rooms, rehearsal spaces, recording sessions and venues across the world.
Along the way, I was fortunate to photograph artists including Freddie Mercury and Queen, David Bowie, Blondie, Blur, PJ Harvey, AC/DC, Human League, Tina Turner, Howard Jones, Pretenders, Duran Duran and many others.
Moments From Inside Music History
Some of the photographs in this archive are familiar. Others have rarely, if ever, been seen.
They were taken for magazines, record companies, publicity campaigns and editorial assignments, as well as during the less formal moments that happen around the music.
What connects them is that I was there to photograph them.
The archive is a record of four decades of music — but also of the people behind it.

FREDDIE MERCURY-QUEEN
From My Personal Archive

Freddie Mercury was one of the most extraordinary performers I ever photographed.
My archive contains a number of photographs taken during my professional work with Freddie and Queen. Some capture the familiar performer. Others show something quieter and more personal.
These are original photographs from that archive, now being made available as carefully produced fine art prints.

DAVID BOWIE
An Artist Who Never Stood Still

SIMON FOWLER
Music Photographer
I never set out to create an archive spanning four decades and on.
I was a photographer doing the work I loved, fortunate enough to spend my career around some remarkable people and some extraordinary music.
I kept the photographs.
Now I’m opening the archive and making selected images available to collectors and fans.
WHY THESE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE DIFFERENT
Original Archive
The photographs come from my own professional archive, accumulated over more than four decades.
First-Hand
These are photographs I personally took while working with the artists.
Provenance
Where known, each photograph is accompanied by information about when, where and in what circumstances it was taken.
Limited Editions
Selected photographs are available as limited-edition fine art prints, produced from the original archive and personally signed.
COLLECT THE PHOTOGRAPH, DISCOVER THE STORY
A photograph can be more than an image on a wall.
It can bring back a song, a concert, an era or a particular moment in someone’s life.
For collectors, there is the interest in the photograph itself — its rarity, provenance and place within an artist’s career.
For fans, sometimes it is simply the chance to live with an image of an artist whose music has been part of their lives.
Either way, every photograph has a story.
THE ARCHIVE
More Than Famous Faces
The collection extends well beyond the best-known names.
From punk and new wave to pop, rock and alternative music, the archive contains photographs of artists from across generations — many photographed before they became household names.
Some images were made in the controlled environment of a studio.
Others happened in moments that lasted only seconds.
Those are often the photographs I remember most.
